| C1 | Championship Events (includes BOC/British Championships, JK/Jan Kjellstrom and any internation events taking place in the UK |
| C2 | National Events (identified by code NE and a number), or a series of major events identified each year as having this special status. |
| C3 | Badgeevents. Courses at badge events are classified by age class and length (long/short) rather than colour code. Juniors' courses are classified by difficulty. |
| C4 | Colour Coded events have courses classified by length and difficulty, as per the above. Any age class can choose to run any course. |
| C5 | Local events and informal, low-key events including summer evening events or Saturday informals, where there may not be a full range of courses offered. |
Other coding letters may be used
to identify what type of event is being held. So, instead of "C" you will
see the following letter codes (example codes and explanations):
C3N - night badge event
S5 - local score event
R1 - championship relay event
X4 - closed colour coded event (may be
only for members of a club, etc.)
O - some other type of event
