The Giant's Causeway

Northern Ireland is coming down with small, friendly hotels, guesthouses and B&Bs. More than you can shake a stick at. And there are almost as many camping and caravan sites as gold courses. The key question is really whether you want to stay in one place during your visit or travel around a bit, and whether you want to be right by the event area or don't mind a drive.

The North Coast / Causeway Coast

There is a caravanning and visitors' complex at Benone itself (028 7775 0555), with more opportunities for campers and caravanners at Downhill, Castlerock, Portrush and Portstewart, all within 1/2 hour of Day 1 areas, and not much more for Day 2. The Benone complex costs £7.50 per tent pitch per night.

Accommodation on the North Coast 2001 brochure is produced by Coleraine Borough Council whose Tourist Information Centre (028 7034 4723) also run a booking service.

Limavady Borough Council (028 7776 0304) produce a slimmer Limavady and the Roe Valley accommodation pamphlet. Limavady is home to the four star Radisson Roe Park Hotel and other smaller facilities.

The Cromore Halt licensed guest in started life as a restaurant and has been rebuilt into a lovely restaurant and three-star inn / accommodation block. I had a look around at Xmas 2000 and cannot recommend the rooms in strong enough terms! The 12 rooms sleep up to four with list prices around £60 per room, but the manager will discuss group discounts. What a great place! (028 7083 6888). The restaurant (028 7083 1919) would make a great stop on the way to the Anchor Bar in Portstewart by the seafront.

Glenleary Farm House. The Millar family 3 miles south of Coleraine - in addition to running a farm - run a popular B&B in a recently renovated farm house. Ann has a variety of rooms from £16 per person per night, with other facilities to hand. 028 7034 2919.

Accommodation in Coleraine.
