Online Jobsearching and Researching

Every week sees a new recruitment website being launched in the UK. This list is by no means comprehensive, but I have included what is hopefully a selection of the better ones.

Kogan Page published a great book to aid those searching for employment with the aid of the internet, entitled "Online Jobhunting: Great answers to tough questions". The authors have over 40 years of recruitment consultancy experience and career management between them, one-third of that on the Internet. Between them they tested each of the sites which ey list for ease of use, CV "banking" and registering with their services. You can buy it now, here.

Caveat - the search facility on most jobs websites is at best limited. Generally, you will need to search for jobs under a specific job title or heading, such as "Acountant - Acturial" or "Engineering - Electronic - Telecomms"

General job vacancy resources
Jobsunlimited	Guardian Recruitment online. This site also links to recruitment consultanies.
Belfast Telegraph Jobfinder	Best for Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland based jobs.
CV Library	UK database of CV's for recruitment agencies and employers; site includes forums and a Jobs database for candidates, with free CV submission.
Headhunter	US based but has a sizeable UK section
Fish4Jobs	Example database size: 38 832
Job Stop	British-based contract and temporary appointments.
Jobsfront	In addition to a weekly three-edition, 52-page vacancies bulletin for the West Midlands, has a comprehensive website updated regularly with jobs in 22 categories
Jobpilot
Jobsearch	Online only agency claiming over 10 000 UK vacancies. CV submission as well as tips on producing an effective CV to begin with. Corporate search facility also
Jobsite
Manpower	The online presence of the major UK high street agency. Includes a 'career directory' enabling customised mailings to you when suitable vacancies arise.
Netjobs	Site has in the past claimed to have registered in excess of 1.5 million hits in one month. Services include psychometric testing and CV and interview advice.
Monsterboard UK	As below, but UK-centered. Now also has dedicated Scottish section. Includes CV builder. Has 400+ featured employers. Career newsletter has 58 300 subscribers, and had 32 372 UK vacancies when last visited.
Monsterboard	US-based, over 50 000 world-wide jobs to search. Includes CV builder.
Multilingualvacancies.com	language vacancies posted by some of the top European multinationals, recruitment consultancies and educational institutions
New Scientist Jobs	Search by sector, keyword, county or specialisation. Must register
Reed	Reed offers over 50 000 UK-based jobs to search. You can registed to receive SMS text alert notification of suitable new job vacancies when they arise
Stepstone	Allows free text searches and has a white collar & professional focus.
Top Jobs on the Net.	British-based specialist jobs and a selection of international vacancies. Now also has dedicated Scottish section.
Total Jobs	CV submit service. Claims the ability to search the details of over 85 000 companies by industry and region. Also provides A-Z listings and offers a free Career Health Check, claimed to be worth £20.
